Installation of photovoltaic power system at ERYTHA HOTEL & RESORT

In the beginning of 2009, at ERYTHA HOTEL & RESORT, it was completed and became operational the first photovoltaic power system in Chios island of 19.8kWp. The project was implemented under Action 6.5.1 of the Framework Program ‘Competitiveness’ «Promotion of renewable energy sources and co-generation in the country’s energy system – Energy Saving» of the Ministry of Development.

By applying new environmentally friendly technologies at ERYTHA HOTEL & RESORT we open the gate to a new era of environmental sensitivity on the island as a pioneering operation which will contribute to the overall effort to protect the environment.

The implementation of the project and the use of solar energy in the hotel will substantially prevent the generation of electricity from conventional fuels such as oil, avoiding the creation and absorption of gaseous pollutants from the environment.

For the operation of this photovoltaic system there were installed 90 generators of the French company TOTAL ENERGIE – EDF GROUP TENESOL 220W power for the absorption of the incident solar energy, three inverters of the German company SMA type SMC 7000 TL to convert DC into AC.

For controlling the system and monitoring the data through the Internet, it has been installed the control system SUNNY WEB BOX of SMA. Any person may address http://www.sunnyportal.com/Templates/PublicPagesPlantList.aspx where he/she can observe the daily production of electricity and how this changes per hour. On the Basis of theoretical and empirical calculations it is estimated that the annual electricity production of the system will be approximately 27.000kWh, and the annual reduction of CO2 emissions about 28.674Kg.

The installation of the system was conducted by the construction company OMIROS S.A. in collaboration with the technical energy company SENERS LTD.

This project – along with the installation of a new type of high efficiency solar panels – is one of the most important actions carried out under the green strategy of the hotel. By 2010 it is expected that similar projects will be completed. Such actions will establish ERYTHA HOTEL & RESORT as a ‘Green hotel’.
